I hope everyone is enjoying their Halloween weekend so far. This is my favorite time of year! I have a little treat for you in honor of my favorite holiday:

Eris finally spotted Karen on the third floor, the children's wing walking with a young woman. Now to get her alone. She watched as her shapely body moved beneath her candy striper uniform. She was the epitome of what every guy wanted and that infuriated Eris. What chance did she have to win Billy's love back if she was still in the picture? Any doubt of what she was about to do dissipated with each swing of this bitches perfect hips.

She grabbed a nearby wheelchair and caught up to her. “Excuse me miss.”

They both turned to face her. Karen was beautiful. Almond shaped green eyes, silky blond hair, flawless skin and a smile that belonged on the cover of a magazine. “Yes,” they both answered.

Eris tried to hide a sneer and then remembered she had put on a face mask. “You,” she pointed at Karen, “would you mind helping me with a patient?”

Her smiled widened, “Oh, of course,” She looked at the other girl, “I'll catch up with you at lunch.”

She wanted to punch her but instead started down the hall with the wheelchair. She looked at each door hoping for a quiet room thinking she really should have planned this part ahead. Well past the nurses station and in an empty section she spotted the word coma on a paper taped below the room number. “Here.” She pushed the chair up to the child's bed and surveyed the room for any visitors. No one.

“Aw, poor little Bobby. He's been like this for almost a month now.” She moved closer to the bed and grabbed the little boys hand. “His Father was driving drunk, barely got a scratch on him too, the bastard.”

Eris reached into her pocket and palmed the syringe but stopped when Karen turned back to her.

“You're not going to be able to take him with the wheelchair.” She frowned slightly. “What is he having done?”

“Oh, an MRI. You're right, let me go get a bed.” As soon as Karen leaned back over the boy she sprang. Grabbed the needle, stabbed it into the girls neck and pushed the plunger as hard as she could.

“Hey! What are you...” She couldn't finish and her eyes rolled upward.

Eris caught her, heart pounding so loud she swore the nurses would hear her and come running. She quickly sat her in the chair and started taking off her shoes. The gown she had stashed under her white coat was placed over Karen's limp body and her feet propped up on the cold footrests.

“What's wrong with her?” Bobby had regained consciousness.

Eris' heart leapt to her throat. “Of all the fucking times to wake up kid, this was not it.” She slowed her breath, “She's um, not feeling well. I need to take her to the ER. I'll send someone in to check on you.”

Bobby started crying. “My head hurts.” He was getting louder.

“Be quiet kid!” She snapped, “They'll be here in a minute.” She just wanted him to shut up before she got caught. “Have to move quick.” She hit the call button on the side of his bed and quickly wheeled Karen out of the room and away from where the nurses would be coming from. She was just rounding the corner as she heard the footsteps running toward Bobby's room.

Eris disolved into tears. She had to get away from that computer with that stupid girls. Name on it. She got her shoes on as quickly as her waterlogged eyes would allow then headed downstairs wiping her face with the long sleeve work shirt she hadn't removed. Calliope was still in the kitchen and the kettle whistled as she walked past.

"Would you like a spot of tea dear sister?" She called out to her in a barely passable English accent.

Eris didn't even break her stride and reached for her coat, "No I would not, I'm going out and you are not Brittish you twit."

The big garden spider had just finished reworking her web when a green grasshopper became ensnared and messed it all up again. I was sitting next to the girl and we both watched as this beautiful, deadly creature quickly wrapped her victim up for dinner. It was like a split second ballet.

"Calliope," the man in the white coats voice had halted the girls humming. "It's time to go dear."

She turned and set her big grey eyes upon him and cocked her head slightly. "Go?"

"Yes." He replied, holding his hand out to her. "We're going to take you someplace safe."

Calliope looked at the outstretched hand and smiled. "Oh, I'm afraid I'm not allowed out of the house. Sister would be simply furious," Her eyes returned to meet his and she smiled sweetly, "but thank you." She turned back to watching the spider and resumed humming Green Sleeves.

Boston

I could live here NO problem! Boston is amazing, so many fabulous restaurants, you can get almost anywhere you want within 20-30 mins and the people are SO nice! My husband and I stopped at a bar called The Plough and Stars in Cambridge (FAB place) and the bartender said that Boston had been voted the meanest city in the US. I ain't buying it, haven't run into a single mean soul yet.

The food, OMG, the food is out of this world! Let me see if I can remember them all...if not there will be another post. Tico was our first stop... Blood orange margaritas to start. Ash had a salmon tartare and fish tacos. I had a mushroom quesadilla with black truffle salsa, it was heavenly! We had lobster rolls at Morse Fish Company in South End. Been there over a hundred years and serves the best damn lobster rolls around at a reasonable price!

Enough about the food just now, I have gotten to hop the commuter train TWICE over to Salem. I honestly never thought I would get the chance to go once.

I had stopped writing this and saved it as a draft....I will do a second half, but I felt this needed to FINALLY be published.

Spring Fever!

As of late I have been on a cooking, baking and creating frenzy. I have created dishes I've always wanted to try, most of them successful. I even have brewed up a small bottle of mead....bigger batch still needs to be brewed this weekend. I've also been drawing and writing....I know it's been a looooong time between books, but don't fret, another is coming. I'm in revamp mode and it can't be fought.

Another change is my store. I was...and still am sort of, with Etsy. My main store is going to be here for now. I have a slight problem with the way Etsy has been running things lately....resellers and copyright infringers are running rampant yet when a seller calls them out, THEY get punished not the wrong doers...WTH? I just don't feel comfortable with clique's, and that's what Etsy has become :( I have moved over to Storenvy, I also feel that I will have a lot more leeway with what I can offer for sale.

So that's what's been going on....how have you all been?

If you're looking to switch your internet, for the love of Eddie Izzard's sacred shiny patten stilettos...DON'T go with Clear!! Why? Let me count the ways....
Even though we were well within the dark green coverage area....slow service.
Little to no Netflix or you get throttled to .25 mgb or less.
Mediocre to infuriating customer service....seriously, NOT easy to make my husband raise his voice, but alas, Clear were champions at it.
Unless you want to pay around $40 to check your e-mail and surf the internet...don't even think about being able to quickly load videos...go elsewhere. I wouldn't recommend this service to my ex-husband O_O

Anyway, rant over and Clear gone! I've been gathering together some VERY talented authors and we will have a surprise for you in the near future! I'm waiting on a few more replies and we will get going on the decision making....genre, time frame and rough idea of the direction we want to go with the project, but we will all be adding to an ongoing story! The what, when and time frame remains to be seen, but we are all pretty excited. This will be multi author and multi blog, so stay tuned for details!

Big Year.

Been busy with writing....I know, I know....when is the next one coming out? Soon. Now that the writers block, (a dangerous thing for a writer), has broken, things are rolling along nicely. Been working mostly on one but adding to other books as ideas, characters and scenes come to me.

I've also been adding more and more products to my Etsy shop.....would love ya forever if ya buy something! So far I've sold a tarot reading and a commissioned set of Pucas. Today my lockets should be arriving so I can make scrying pendants, (black mirrors). I have a ton of stained glass I still need to do something with as well....but that's neither here nor there at the moment.

Or should I say good riddance? It has definitely been a rough one. This will be my last entry for this year because I am cleaning house....next year will be no drama....putting my boot in it's ass! You all will see a lot of changes and a lot more of the old me.

This year has been a strange one with all the ups and downs, friendships growing distant, writers block. I have a lot to be thankful for though. Between catching up with old friends and family, having our health, getting my spark back and a few other things I won't mention here.....I am grateful and feel blessed. Tomorrow will be spent with people I love. I wish you all could come too!

I am wearing purple in support of bullying victims on 10/20... everyday really. I am a straight, happily married female, but have witnessed, sometimes firsthand, the abuse that goes on with homosexuals. Anyone that knows me, knows that I am VERY supportive of the gay community and will do anything within my power to be available for anyone who needs to talk....seriously, you need an ear, PLEASE e-mail me. I was bullied as a kid, sometimes called gay because I played with "boys toys". I don't care how people see me but when the word is used as a weapon, it's hurtful as a child even if the word is bowl...it's the power behind the words hurled at you... I encourage you to use your words wisely, it may cost someone their life. I was lucky because I was brought up in a household where my parents would have accepted if I was gay...I almost felt like I cheated someone along the way. Someone could have used that acceptance! I did need it when I came out of the broom closet to them, but still, Paganism is much easier to live with hiding rather than who you are and who you love.

Second but not diminished, I ran across a posting on Reddit and it hit my heart. I have two boys so I would like to encourage you to buy a piece of artwork or make a donation to Aidan.....he is a little boy struggling with Leukemia. Like many of us, his family is dealing with the US health care crisis so PLEASE help any way you can. I will proudly display one of Aidens pictures in my home.

I may not know you, but please know that you are loved. Don't be afraid to reach out to someone if you need it!

This was posted to my Node blog but I was informed you have to be a member to read it.

Most of you are aware of what Square is or are highly pissed off that you've been waiting months to receive your dongle/card reader. For those of you who don't know what Square is, here's the run down. If you have an Android or an Iphone (I have the former) you can go to the app store/market and download the Square app....sign up here https://squareup.com/ for free and Square will verify your bank account, send you a card reader and viola.... you are an instant, on the go merchant able to take cards from your phone!
I am an author and I also do tarot readings so this service is highly valuable to me. Now when I go to book signings I don't have to turn people away when they don't have cash. Best thing is, I don't have to pay a monthly fee for using Square.... which is cool for those times when I'm not selling anything!

Glad you asked! Well, while Square is a fantastic service, they did jump the gun a tad with their launch (they will fully admit this as well). They had people clamoring for the reader (which is free BTW) when they launched initially in March....they couldn't produce them on that big of a scale, so peeps had to wait. They fixed the reader problem by late May when I signed up, but peeps (myself included) still had to wait. Mobs were starting to gather in the forums wanting Jack on a pike. Now there was an underwriting issues and they were scrambling to get it all worked out. We were placated with "Soon" and "We're almost done." The mob was furious and now using kittens as torch fuel! *kidding* Now we were all pretty frustrated at no clear set date and vague answers, but in Square's defense, you can't give answers you don't have. The mob would have been satisfied with being able to use the app by entering in the card number, but it couldn't be fully launched without the reader *catch 22* .
I received my reader a few weeks ago and it works beautifully! Absolutely thrilled with Square...it was worth the wait. Now some are still waiting on their readers but the line is getting shorter as they're shipping them out. So as far as launching early, yeah, probably not the best idea....but they were excited and we all make mistakes right? So everyone take a deep breath and put your big boy/girl panties on, you reader is on it's way. If you haven't signed up and could use something like Square, (even for just yard sales) get to it!

I started pretty young....it was all innocent at first with Wonderwoman, Sid & Marty Kroft hour, Bionic woman and Starsky & Hutch (met them one in LAX when I was 5. Paul Michael Glassier tweaked my nose & gave me a piece of gum. David Soul was kind of a dick, but I digress).
My favorite show in the whole world though, even above cartoons or the Bugaloos was In Search Of hosted by Leonard Nemoy. In fact I still get chills when I hear the theme song!

I wear my nerdiness proudly and there are many facets to said state of being.

Yesterday had me stressed quite a bit..... it was mostly the comments in the forums that had me all riled up and confused. Me being me, should have known better than to listen to the hysteric masses, I usually don't fall into that trap. Not to say I'm not fallible, I'm not so brazen as to claim that, but I can usually spot that from a mile away. Thankfully the Square staff saw this and answered questions, finally.... another reason panic can get out of hand is if "mommy & daddy" don't calm the "kids".

So, that being said, it looks like the ship will sail after all once they get all the paper work in place. I am going to wait my turn in line, but Square looks like a very viable and excellent option for me at this point. If you have and Android, Iphone, Ipad or Iwhatever.... you can use this app. They are working on this option for Blackberry, so take heart.

Here's the run down that I got out of yesterday.... you sign up, activate your bank account, they will run a credit check, (to affirm that you are a meat-popcicle & not Hal 2000), they put you in queue for a reader, once you get it, activate it with the little code and you're good to go. You do have the option of opting out of the credit check, but you don't get a reader.... you can then only use the app to keep track of cash transactions.

I plan on using this for book signings and conventions... no more turning fans away because of cards. I also plan to use it to do Tarot readings on the fly *for entertainment purposes only* (legally have to add that in there). click on the word Square <~~~that one right there, to check out their website!

Sorry, but I have to get this off my chest....

I signed up for a service called Square which will allow me to take credit and debit card payments anywhere I go with my phone. As an author this is an ideal service as I had to refuse a few book sales recently because I didn't have the capability to take cards.....I had already signed up for Square at this point....let me explain. You are required to activate a card reader that attaches to your phone via headjack....hadn't received the reader yet and you can't use the service until you activate said reader. After you activate, you can THEN take payments with out the dongle (at a higher rate) but NOT until then.
Some people signed up with Square months (we're talking March & April) ago and are STILL waiting on readers...I've only been waiting since just before the Con Carolina's event. I don't mind waiting a bit because, hey, the dongle is free. My problem is I can't use the service AT ALL until they send me this damn piece of plastic....and NOW when they finally do give us an update on the slow progress of things have told us we need a credit check or we can cancel our service.... doesn't seem to be a choice. I'm pretty sure there is some sort of legal issue with changing the rules midstream but will cross that bridge when they answer the question of whether this is the case or not. A lot of people are canceling their accounts and going with other services such as GoPayment. I may have to go with them as well, but am not sure if my needs warrant a monthly $12.95 bill, (which is WAY reasonable BTW), just yet.

*sigh* I will update you all again as things progress. This is a fledgling company and the services seem awesome IF we ever get the chance to use it...but be warned....their communication is almost NON existent, save for poor Beth who has been thrown to the wolves of the CEO's making and the fact that you can't use it until you get the reader. If you're considering signing up, I would highly recommend waiting to see if this ship sinks or not, because it's REALLY iffy at this point. They launched WAY too early and are pissing off a lot of people right now.

All right I have gotten at least a satisfactory answer on the credit check issue...they always do one and have not done one on anyone yet....but at least there is not a second.

I had a ball this weekend. Got to catch up with old friends and make some very cool new ones! This year I was lucky to have some physical copies of my books and sold out of them...mind you, I only had two on hand....but one of my publishers brought copies of Mating Season and I was able to sign them.
I finally got to hang out with Yvette, it was an honor meeting her. She was the first publisher (Amira press) to take a chance on me and say yes to Cold Kiss. We were seated in between Faith Hunter and Sabrina Luna. I want to send a big thank you to Faith's husband as well for his patients with my son's constant raspberries aimed toward him. Got to meet Mark Baranowski, his lovely wife Ryli and their son. Got some hang time with David Pendragon (a.k.a. Mr. Big Mamma D), James, Marcia Collette, Eliza Gayle and Rachel & Tally Johnson. Pig Bird made an appearance with his parents who are long time friends of mine....Evil Twin & her hubby Myrddin Wolfe.
The media guests were amazingly nice! I made a fool of myself with Claudia Christian...I wasn't expecting her to be standing there and I stumbled for what to say. Bill Blair is such a sweetheart and put up with me being a bit of a flirt. Richard Hatch, what can I say, really nice gentleman who let me interrupt him enjoying chocolate ice cream for a picture and a nice big squeeze. I almost made a fool out of myself here as well by not watching where I was going and tripping over Bill Blair's foot :(
I also met a really cool gentleman named Doc Geressy who, get this, drives the Ecto-3A. I'm going to go ghost hunting with him and Carolina Ghostbusters soon.
A few other cool happenings, got some hang time and panel time with Robert Aldrich....he also drew a picture for me that now hangs in my office.
I'm going to be doing a post on my author friends in the next few days because I know I'm skipping a few :(

geared up for Con Carolinas in a few weeks. So excited to see everyone again and maybe make some new friends. Also done with my respite after Dedicated To You and back to work on other projects. I have so many books to write it almost freezes me up when I sit down to hammer them out.
Later on this year I will be launching my young adult books under another pen name... Penelope Percival Dragonwick. It's been a busy few weeks...finally getting my office in order and trying to spend more and more time working in there rather than the kitchen where there are too many distractions. Also trying to get back in shape....I really need to get back down and into my old clothes. I've cut out the port wine...I do so love it but it does my waistline no favors!
In a few days I should have a copy of my second print book!! DTY was part of the 100% American Beef anthology with Dahlia Rose, Jordyn Tracy, Sabrina Luna and Anastasia Rabiyah and should be available on Amazon.com soon...I will post the link when it's up.

It has definitely been an up & down kind of week (& a half). Started out with me going to the Dr., (I'm okay). Some crazy woman is trying to extort money out of me...she was paid in full for goods YEARS ago and I'm not the only one she's doing this to. I received a copy of my first print book! Had another release on Sat, (thank you everyone who bought a copy, you rock!). Went with my bestie to pick up her new puppy and got a chance to meet with some dear friends we haven't seen in a while. You need a good ghost story, Tally Johnson is your man! FINALLY found the perfect red hair dye...so far I love it! Hubby was sick most of the weekend so I didn't get to cruise over to Kings mountain for the Beltain Brouhaha to see my friends from NCPCOW. :(
OH, and last night I bought a sample of this to hang on my wall. Growing up in So Cal we visited Disneyland quite often and the Haunted Mansion is my favorite ride, only seconded by Pirates (one of these days I will eat at The Blue Bayou!), in fact New Orleans square has always been my favorite part of the park. Some of you may recognize it as the wallpaper in part of the mansion...mind you, I'm not papering my entire office because it's $75 a roll...but I am going to frame the sample. *sigh* this weekend was a hard but happy one for me. We celebrated my husbands birthday which was also supposed to be the due date of our child. Not going to lie, we were hoping for a girl and her name would have been Amelia after my grandmother...before we found out Max was a boy, it was going to be his name as well. Amelia was and is not to be, at 14 weeks along my body betrayed me. At least that's what I felt at the time and in the months that have followed. I was blindsided, but luckily in the Dr.'s office and they rushed me to the hospital and into surgery to stop the bleeding.... and it was over. I was alive, but our child was gone. The Dr told me the baby had ceased to be a few weeks before. I went through the range of emotions at top rate speed, how could I not have known?
April 11th came and it was almost a relief, like I could finally let go. I am the mother of two wonderful boys and will be mother-in-law to two wonderful women, or men if they should so choose. I have an amazing husband who has put up with me breaking my own heart over and over since. I have the best family and friends anyone could ask for and I am ready to let myself be happy...fully.
This is a song Ash gave to me when we first found out I was pregnant and I am just now able to listen to it again because it's a damn good song!

The release date for Cubo will be March 13 and since it's so close to St. Patrick's Day, I will be holding a contest called Kiss Me I'm Irish starting Monday. Check back in for rules.

Gingerbread pudding cake!! My family and I love this recipe.

1 1/4 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground ginger
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, room
temperature. I use regular butter.
1/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons beaten egg (from 1 egg)
1/2 cup light molasses (I use dark)
1/2 cup water
3/4 cup (packed) brown sugar
1 1/2 cups hot water
5 tablespoons butter melted.
Whipped cream

Preheat oven to 350 F. Butter 8x8x2-inch glass baking dish. Whisk flour, ginger, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cloves, and salt in medium bowl. Using electric mixer, beat 1/4 cup butter and 1/4 cup sugar in large bowl until blended. Beat in egg. Stir molasses and 1/2 cup water in 1 cup measuring cup. Add flour mixture to butter mixture in 3 additions alternating with molasses mixture, beating to blend between additions.Transfer to prepared dish. Sprinkle with brown sugar to cover.
Stir 1 1/2 cups hot water and melted butter in 2-cup glass measuring cup. Carefully pour over top of batter (there will be lots of liquid on top of the cake). Bake until gingerbread is cracked on top and toothpick comes clean (the bottom with be gooey), about 45 mins. Scoop warm pudding cake into shallow bowls. Serve with whipped cream.

So, I am racing to finish Squall by Thursday *muses be kind to me* and I just wanted to give you guys a little piece of what I wrote last night. A little back ground info; Harkin is a kelpie and Vanora is a mermaid....in this scene they have come into the town of Dundee Scotland......

He knew she was hiding something, but decided to let it go. A ball came rolling toward them and Harkin bent down to catch it only to see a small child chasing after it. “Is this yours?” He handed the ball to him.

The little toe headed boy looked up at Harkin, “Yessir. This is my favorite ball, me granny gave it to us and it's small and bouncy and it's shiny too. I love it more than me other ball cause that one was green and I don't really like green.” He stopped to take a deep breathe then turned and looked at Vanora. “Hi, what's yer name, my name is Billy, I'm five years old and I have a puppy named Paddington. He's a good dog except for when he wees on the floor, but he keeps me company and sleeps on my bed. He chewed up my green ball and that's why Granny got us this red ball but its okay cause I didn't like the green ball anyway. Hey, you have chips. Can I have one?”

Vanora looked at Billy as if he were going to bite her, then slowly took a chip and gingerly handed it to him. “Ta. I love chips, not as much as I love ice cream or chocolate or crisps, but chips are great. I like mine especially with vinegar on them, do you ever eat yours with vinegar?”

“Billy, you come her and stop bothering those nice people.” A larger female version of the boy came running up to them with a mix of anger and apology on her face. “I'm so sorry, he sometimes slips away. I think I may need a leash for him.” She grabbed the boy by the arm. “Come on child.”

Vanora's face brightened, “A leash is a good idea. That's what they put those small furry noisy things on right?”

Harking elbowed her and smiled at the woman who was now looking back at them disapprovingly. “She was just joking Maam.”

I had fun with these paragraphs....for all the non British speakers....chips are fries and crisps are chips.

So, I FINALLY finished Cubo...blurb;

Tommi McColl moved from Manhattan to Charlotte NC to make a fresh break from her painful childhood, found the house of her dreams and opened the bookstore she had always wanted. Will her dream turn out to be a night mare or will the hot electrician hired to fix her wiring be able to save Tommi from her nightly visitor and ghostly resident?

It wasn't as long as I would have liked, but I'm proud of it. This will be an e-book and I'm going to finish Troll to be an e-book and they will be doubled up as a print.

Also being finished up is Squall. There are now only three authors involved with this anthology now...Morgan Hawke, Dahlia Rose and myself. I'm very excited about this one.

Just finished up an interview and will post the link to that on Sat. when it is available. Also, don't forget to tune into Sugar and Spice Press radio this Friday when I will be co-hosting with Sabrina Luna!

Now, I would just like to take a minute and remember my 13 year old cat Hunter who sadly left us this Saturday. He was an amazing friend who became part of my life just a few short weeks before I found out I was pregnant with my oldest son.He will be greatly missed.

Tips for submitting to a publisher.

1. Read ALL of that publisher's guidelines.

2. Make sure you POV (point of view) is one character per chapter and not more than three POV's in a story.

3. If you are submitting to a publisher that sells erotic books, PLEASE put sex scenes in the book!

4. Try to have someone non-biased or someone who has been in the business a while look over your manuscript.

5. Submit and then practice patience. Your's in not the only story being reviewed.

6. Do not, and I repeat DO NOT shop your book!!! Nothing is more irritating than offering a contract only to find out you were hedging your bets. It's also a good way to get yourself an automatic no the next time you submit. Also keep in mind, word gets around about that kind of behavior.

It's been a pretty fantastic week as well, why is that you ask??? Let's see, I got a netbook!!! My Uncle found a fab deal on a Dell Mini 10....he, my Aunt and parents decided to purchase it as an early Christmas present.
This comes just in time because the Valentine's Day anthology is a GO!!! Just got the word yesterday after Morgan, Dahlia, Eliza and I sat for a good few hours hammering out story lines, characters and titles. It's to be finished by the beginning of December and out by Valentine's Day. I am really VERY excited about this! Decided to leave the selkie for another story but will still contain a mermaid and a kelpie.
Been getting a good amount of work done on Cubo and can't wait to FINALLY have it finished *stupid writers block* and off to the publisher.
So, hope everyone has a great weekend! Be safe if you're out and about.

I got to hang with some of my author buddies and meet some new friends as well at the Fetish Fair. As always, the creative juices start flowing when you get authors together. I know have a plot line for the first in a series of four YA books, and have picked up a second anthology within a month. The first, which will be out in late Spring is 100% American Beef with Jordyn Tracy, Dahlia Rose, Sabrina Luna and myself. The second anthology, which will hopefully be out for early Spring is a fantasy. Kissing Tales is the tentative title with Morgan Hawke, Eliza Gale, Dahlia Rose and myself.
I'm going back to Dundee and St. Andrew's Scotland as my setting for this mermaid tale....YES, mermaid, I have been dying to do one! Mine will include Kelpies and Selkies as well.
I'm thinking "A Ripple in The Water" as the title...whatcha think?

Just started following lenovosocial on Twitter for a chance to win a netbook. I've just done a quick search on reviews for this brand and they seem mixed....some say slow, others say great all ways around. I think they have the look I'm looking for...really like the white, blue & white and red & white. Most of the other brands out there have a color and then the black keyboard. But this is going to be for my writing and internet...since I am going to be in a Dr's office quite frequently over the next 8-9 months, this would be great to take with me and write while in the waiting room...cause you know there is going to be A LOT of waiting, LOL.

Dahlia Rose has that song stuck in my head this week....SCHOOL IS BACK IN SESSION...well, next week. There has definitely been a lot going on this Summer between writing, anniversaries, birthdays, relatives visiting and finding out we are expecting another bundle of joy in April on my husbands birthday. (Hoping for a girl, but will be happy with a healthy baby of either gender).
I am ready for Fall! Then again, I'm always ready for Fall again halfway through Winter. I am ready to come alive again....I become very grumpy and mostly immobile during the hot oppressive Summer months. Another yey with this pregnancy, my last trimester will be in the Spring! The boys are Aug. and Sept.
So, before I go back to writing, I would like to take a moment to give a shout out to teachers and to bus drivers. I don't think I know anyone who doesn't admire teachers and all they do for us and our children, but bus drivers cart our little heathen back and forth everyday.....thankfully safely most times. So, as the mother of a bus rider, thank you!
So now back to writing....oh, on a side note, Mating Season got another review....http://manicreaders.com/index.cfm?disp=reviews&bookid=3847...Unfortunatly she didn't like my contribution too much, LOL. Hey, I've been pretty lucky in the review department, not everyone is going to like my stories. Mini laptops/netbooks

Here is my dilemma, DH and I share a laptop....when he gets home, I stop my writing and relinquish control over our "third child". My choices are to write on paper, which is fine for the most part, or wait until he is done....leaving me up till sometimes 2 in the morning writing.
I am considering a mini because it's light weight and easily portable....I can put it on the kitchen counter and use it while I'm waiting for the sauce to boil or stick it in my purse and use it at...well, anywhere I want really. The one I have my eye on at the moment is the Acer Aspire One in Sapphire blue w/ Linux....but I have questions, maybe you can help....I would certainly appreciate any advice.

A. Are mini's a good thing for writers?

B. Will Linux interfere with how I send my manuscripts to my publishers?

C. Do any of you have one or would recommend a different mini?

I enjoy reading anthologies because it gives me a chance to try new to me authors. And Mating Season is a well-rounded anthology because it offers a little bit of everything for everyone – shape shifters, contemporary, interracial and paranormal stories. The stories take readers on a journey with forbidden lovers, life lessons, shapeshifters and hot, steamy, erotic sex. With most anthologies there are usually one or two stories that stick out above the rest. I am happy to say that this was not the case for this book. All of the stories were excellent. I would definitely be reading this anthology again and will be on the look out for more stories from each of these authors.

I love when I can see the light at the end of the tunnel with a book and this one seems to be sewing itself up pretty nicely. I have filled in some of the gaps that I was worried about over the weekend.

After I finish up Cubo, I really need to have a girls day and shift out of Mom mode for a night ;) Then it will be onto the sequel for A Hare's Breadth....still debating weather I'm going to finish up the story or leave it open for a third (even though I haven't written one word for it yet). Still playing around with titles for it as well.

I'm really excited about getting Cubo out there though. My poor husband made the mistake of stopping for two seconds just as I finished a good chapter and I talked his ear off about it for a good half hour. That will teach him to ask me how it's going! :)

So back to it, fingers crossed for a Wed finish!!!

Cerebral Reviews the new Mrs. Giggles???

I'm all for honest reviews, but WOW seems like this site was just started so they can feel above any author that DARE send their book in. This strikes me as an excuse to be a grammar natzi and tear down authors and publishers that they don't care for.

Needless to say, I will not be sending any of my books to them and would caution other authors to think about it before they send in as well.

I did some investigating because the blatant venom and favoritism was bothering me. I have figured out who one of the "reviewers" is, (will not name)....but shame on them for skimming through 2 books (they admitted it) and then condemning a publisher! That's someone's livelihood you're messing with because one of the authors pen names is too similar. You're messing with MY livelihood because I have a book coming out with them in Aug. I'm telling you right now, you don't try to take food out of my kids mouths and not have me get upset.
Hey, no problem on having to read books from Sugar and Spice....or Amira Press, Mojo Castle, Kensington, Phaze, Ellora's Cave or some of the other publisher's that my writer friends have books with.

Weird week

Last week was a doozy was it not? Not only did we loose quite a few celebrities, I read about quite a few Face Book friends loosing loved ones and friends. Such a sad time in a lot of lives and that was on top of what's going on in Iran. I am going to keep my politics to a minimum however.
It seems the muses are working over time....most of my writer friends and myself have been finishing stories and coming up with new ideas left and right. I am finishing up Cubo, very excited that this will be my first print book. Also have added to my list of projects! The sequel to A Hare's Breadth will be a stand alone book and not part of Amira's Fall anthology; I am creating a young adult spin-off from that for Sugar&Spice AND I have another young adult story in the works. This is on top of the other books I have on the back burner. I am so thankful and grateful that most of those books have homes to go to and that ideas keep coming. I am also thankful for all of the wonderfully talented friends I have....I got a chance this past Sat to bounce ideas with Dahlia Rose and Morgan Hawke; two ladies that I love dearly. We had so much fun in fact that we are going to be setting up a small writers get together for a chit chat/ bouncing session. Should be fun!
Well, I am off to write so that I can get this finished and into your hands! I'll post a little teaser soon.

Regina Paul is an outstanding writer who takes the time to round out a story. Never leaving the reader wondering how or why something occurred. No Place to Run showcases this talent to the extreme.

Flights of Fancy

Fancy McKee has lived under the shadow of her mother’s reputation for many years. Accustomed to what people think of her she opens her own unique bakery regardless of the town’s opinion.

Business was good but Tate Hildebrandt is better. Tate has no cares regarding the opinions of a narrow-minded town and he is determined he will be the last man for Fancy.

Fancy will have to prove that she is better than the gossip in order to hang on to her man. Tate will not stand for anything less than total commitment.

Fancy is such a sweet but realistic character. Dahlia Rose takes on the subject of gossip with great skill and knowledge demonstrating how gossip should not dictate the path of life. Flights of Fancy is an outstandingly written story which inspires the reader to stand up for the underdog.

Midnight Shift

Lori and Chase are forbidden lovers. He is a shape-shifter and she is a human as well as the daughter of the biggest anti-shifter rights political activist.

Just when they have determined that they will become secret lovers her father has pushed through a law that makes it illegal for them to be together.

Unable to marry, have babies, or even be intimate they have decided to live in the wild outside the bounds of civilization.

The characters and storyline are unique but closer to the realities of the acceptance of paranormal beings in mainstream society. Brenda Steele skillfully ended the story so that although I was left wanting to know the rest of the story; I felt no disappointment in the ending.

Robin is a shape-shifter who had despaired of ever meeting her mate. That is until she sees Vincenzo performing with his family.

June 12th 2005 was our first date. June 12th 2006 was our wedding day. I feel like I've known him all my life and some day's I find a new surprise in his gray eyes...or blue or green, depending on his mood. I love him immensely, irrevocably and immeasurably. He makes me strive to be a better person but accepts me as I am. Catching up....sorry I've been so silent!

Con Carolinas was a blast. I really enjoyed meeting everyone; authors, vendors, patrons, Klingons, Storm troopers, faires, vampires and old friends! I have pictures posted on my Facebook and Myspace pages, so be sure to check them out :)

I got a chance to do my first panels with some wonderfully talented authors and even be serenaded with a rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody by formerly mentioned Klingons!

I have a time frame for Cubo, it should be out the second week in August! Excited about that!! Also, sugarandspicepress.net has just started a young adult line and are looking for submissions....go check it out. I have been wanting to take the younger characters from A Hare's Breadth and give them their own (non erotic) stories. I need your help though, since it is going to be another genre/ age category (still paranormal)should I go with another pen name????

I will expand on everything soon but for now I have to go grab Morgan for coffee time. Please let me know what you think.

I received my Blu Cigarette in the mail today. So far I am loving it!!! My lungs are already feeling better, I don't stink, I can lay on my bed and "smoke" or rather, what the kiddies are calling it, Vape. In fact, I just took a drag as I'm writing.
Here's my run down....
I smoke menthol, this is a bit sweeter than what I'm used to but comparable enough to suffice. Haven't tried the other flavors yet (Java, Vanilla, Cherry).
The drag/ vapor is almost the same as a regular cig; you even get the warm sensation that a traditional cigarette gives off, to a slightly lesser degree. You can even blow smoke rings if you're so inclined, or unlike myself, capable of!
I like the fact that you don't have to consume an entire cigarette to get your fix.You can take a quick drag and stick it back in your pocket or put it down.
I used it in the grocery store!!!
I used it while laying on the bed talking to...Dahila, Rochelle and my parents!!!

I must say I am certainly impressed! The benefits certainly outweigh the negatives (it's a bit heavier in weight and it's not a cigarette).

Weird synchronicity; I bought this on Sat, my friend Rochelle bought one today...we had been talking about it and wondering weather to bring it up to Morgan because she smokes cloves and we hadn't seen that flavor. Well, Ro calls me up this evening to inform me that Morgan bought one on Sat (different brand) and that they both love it...she got the chocolate flavor. We all used to be neighbors until hubby and I bought the house...Ro and Morgan still live there...we're all witches as well and I tell you when the three of us get together powerful things happen. Once Dahlia has her little boy, all four of us need to get together to see what happens!!

So....anyway....if you're looking to quit but can't....I highly suggest purchasing an electronic cigarette. Mine is from here... http://bluecigs.com/ but do your research, there are plenty of brands out there. I like the look and feel of Blu, I got the black one...it's a little shorter than a 100 sized cig but slightly longer than a king.

In other news....some of you may know that I am a smoker and I have been struggling to quit for quite some time now to no avail. A friend posted a link that I'm hoping will be the answer or at least temporary solution to my problem...http://bluecigs.com/
I had NO clue things like this existed! My problem is the act of smoking and nicotine addiction therefore the patch and cold turkey did not work! This product looks like it will satisfy both of those "needs" and without the carcinogens that are so terrible for myself and anyone around me. Don't get me wrong....I DO NOT smoke in my house, I have children and even if I didn't, that smell lingers and gets into everything. I am tired of that smell being on me and my clothes. I am tired of the ashtray. I am tired of the coughing. I am tired of being out of breath. I am tired of the cost.I am tired of the stigma and dirty looks. I am tired of being a smoker....but I don't have the willpower to quit. I am hoping this will help and from all the youtube videos about electronic cigarettes and information I have seen this looks like a promising alternative.

Why are my eyes still open? Partially because I know I have to be somewhere in the morning (Aunt& Uncle are visiting and at my parents house) and partially because it's been a busy day. Dropped the 11 year old off at Aunt Dahlia's for a sleepover and picked up books and supplies for Con Carolinas at the end of the month. I realized when I was picking up lunch for hubby and myself that I was supposed to attend the NCPCOW Beltaine Brouhaha and forgot about it!! Quickly ate lunch and then headed to King's Mountain to at least say hi and I was determined to get there this year! I attended and helped out with the first year they were at KM and every year since something has happened to keep me from going. This year...again, the rain was POURING down to the point of not being able to drive, and getting lost....but I made it...I think the curse of being kept from the event has been lifted. It was wonderful catching up with friends. Then this evening was the Hatton/ Pacquiao fight....OMG...I, well, for those of you who haven't seen it, I won't ruin it...just suffice to say I was shocked in ways I didn't think I would be.
Also today, hubby found a few links about Y The Last Man (one of my fav comic books) being made into a movie...I sent a tweet to Joe Hill (yes, JOE HILL) about it, because he's a fan of Y as well, and he said he hand't heard about it being in production (Thank you humbly Joe for answering me). Half of me is relieved at this because I'm not too sure about Shia Lebouf playing Yorick nor DJ Caruso directing it, and the other half wants to see it on celluloid. If this is not done right there will be rioting!
I'm now nursing my second Bacardi and Pepsi...which I enjoy but wonder if they're not counter productive with the caffeine and alcohol mixture....I was hoping it would knock me out by now. No, I'm going to go outside and have another cig and talk to the hoot owl that roosting across the street talking to his/her brethren...yes, I talk to animals...sometimes they answer me back...my sanity is subject to the reader, either way, I'm going to do what I do and enjoy the hell out of life!

I was asked today by a gentleman on Twitter, of which I am addicted, if I ever have to do research for my books. The answer for me, and any author who wants to continue selling books, is yes. I do a lot of research to make my story not only factual and accurate but to prevent myself from looking silly. There will ALWAYS be a reader out there who is more versed on a subject or location than I am, it's just the way life is. To prevent readers from being offended by inaccuracies, I do my homework. In fact, I do almost as much homework as Morgan Hawke does...that woman is a walking encyclopedia. I'm not kidding about that; I called her for her birthday and she explained Japanese culture in it's entirety to me!

My books so far have been located in Dundee Scotland and even though my family is from there and I've been there once, I still do research on the area, (as pointed out in a previous post). For A Hare's Breadth, I did research on Poveglia Island in Italy. Research often inspires how your story unfolds so it's good in more ways than one. For the second half of HB, which is tentatively titled Poveglia and will be in the Amira Press Fall anthology, I am in contact with a gentleman who has actually been there with his wife.

Alright, back to work!

Quiet on the set!

At least that's what I wish I could yell sometimes. I wish I could just take my laptop up to my office with a pack of cigarettes and a cup of coffee or glass of wine and just write! So what's the problem? My two year old would destroy the house, I don't smoke in the house and being tipsy in the middle of the afternoon would be very irresponsible, fun, but irresponsible.
So, I write when I can. I write during naps, in the morning before souls are stirring, in between "no don't touch that, put that down and get off the stairs!" When hubby is on the computer, I write on paper....I take my composition book and my cigarettes outside and write when I can. Truth is, I wouldn't trade it for the world. Some of my best stuff comes while making dinner.
Right now I'm waiting for my edits on A Hare's Breadth. It should be done by the end of April so it'll be a May release. I've also added three more books to what I'm working on...Faire, Norwegian Wood and King of Wands. Yes I am insane! After those and Cubo are done I'll start on my sequels to Cold Kiss and A Hare's Breadth.
This year is going to be an exciting and busy one for me.

I am so excited to show off the new cover! I am currently wrapping up the ending to make it a happier one. I misunderstood what my publisher meant by open ended and left the story in a less than desirable state. That's all that I'll mention about the subject, you'll have to just grab a copy for yourself when it comes out ;)
As soon as I'm able, meaning after everything is edited and contracts signed, I will post an excerpt to wet your appetite!

In other news, my 2 1/2 yr old is getting a big boy bed tomorrow! We got an Ikea FINALLY, so I am going to introduce my husband to the wonder that is one of the most awesome stores in the world! Not looking forward to the weather, (rainy), but it's been weird the past month. We got snow last Sunday, Thursday it was in the upper 70's and today was in the 40's. PICK A SEASON ALREADY!!! Mind you, I prefer it colder as I am NO fan of Summer here on the East coast.....feeling like I'm breathing through a hot wet wash cloth is not my cup of tea. Minus the bugs, yeah, I'm ready for Spring. Anyway, didn't mean for that to turn into a semi rant....it's late, I should be sleeping...oh yeah, there is a reason for the rant...for the past two nights we've been kept up by a sick child! So thus....screw you weather, you're fired! LOL, I take it in stride because what other choice do I have ;)

Well, with the first leg of it, still have edits to go. I finished A Hare's Breadth last night and I am much more relaxed today. Now I can go ahead and get a few reviews done, one that is over due. I am also very excited for Watchmen coming out this weekend!!

I think you guys are going to enjoy HB, I have it set in Dundee Scotland like I had Cold Kiss. I got to thinking as I was writing the other day, maybe readers would like to see where I'm talking about in the book. I'm going to post some links if you would like to see.

Still working on "A Hare's Breadth" for the Amirapress Spring anthology titled "Mating Season". It's a story about two shapeshifting clans, one Scottish and one Italian, set in Scotland. I'm honored to have my name along side Dahlia Rose, Brenda Steele and Regina Paul for this project. I just revamped chapter 1 because I didn't like the way the story started out and am very excited with the direction it's taking now....hopefully you will all like it as well. As soon as the cover art is done and I get a copy I will put it up for you to see.
As soon as HB is done I will be finishing work on another book entitled "Cubo" (latin for I lie) about an Incubus, this one will be set here in Charlotte NC. I'm in talks with Sugarandspicepress for release of "Cubo", I'll keep you guys updated.
Projects for the near future after these are a sequel to Cold Kiss another book tentativly entitled "Troll" and a possible series for "A Hare's Breadth".
So, I'm going back to work!

Cottage Cheese Dill Rolls

(From the Culinary Institute of America)
It says it yields 24 rolls

4 1/2 tsp active yeast
1/3 cup water, warmed to 110 F
4 1/4 cups bread flour
1 1/2 cups small-curd cottage cheese
1/4 cup minced yellow onions
2 large eggs
1 tbsp butter, softened
3 tbsp chopped fresh dill (can sub. chives, scallions or oregano)
2 tsp prepared horseradish
2 tbsp sugar
1 1/2 tsp salt
2 1/4 tsp baking soda
1/3 cup butter, melted, divided use
3 tbsp coarse salt for sprinkling

1. Place the yeast and warm water in the bowl of the mixer and stir to completely dissolve. Let the yeast proof until foamy, about 5 minutes. Add the flour, cottage cheese, onions, eggs, 1 tablespoon softened butter, dill, horseradish, sugar, salt and baking soda to the yeast mixture. Mix the ingredients together on low speed using the dough hook just until the dough begins to come together (it will look rather rough), about 2 mins. Increase the speed to medium high and mix until the dough is smooth, an additional 5 mins.
2. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface, knead once or twice, and gather into a smooth ball. Place in a lightly greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let the dough rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 2 hours.
3 Fold the dough gently over on itself in three or four places. Cover once more and let the dough rise a second time until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
4. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper or grease lightly.
5. Fold the dough gently over on itself in three or four places, turn the dough out onto a lightly floured work surface and cut into 16 equal pieces (about 2 ounces each). Cover the pieces and let the rest until relaxed, about 15 mins. Round each piece into a smooth ball and place in even rows on the prepared baking sheets. Cover and let rise until the dough springs back when lightly touched but does not collapse, 20 to 30 mins.
6. Brush the top of each roll with a little of the melted butter. Bake until golden brown, about 20 to 30 mins. As soon as the rolls are removed from the oven, brush lightly with the remaining melted butter and sprinkle lightly with salt.
7. transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely before serving.

It takes a while, but these are SSOOO yummy!

Aside from being totally enamored with a new band called Distrails, getting my butt kicked by NaNoWriMo and dealing with more testosterone in the house, (new puppy), a few other things have been happening.
The short that I am working on right now, A Hare's Breadth (changed from breath), is for a Spring anthology with Amira Press called Mating Season. My fellow MS writers include Dahlia Rose, Brenda Steele, Tina Gayle.
Also myself and Kathleen Rowland will be the featured authors of December for Amira Press! To celebrate I will be holding a contest starting Dec 1 for a free copy of Cold Kiss, so check back for the contest rules next week!

Cold Kiss is the first book released by Dorian Wallace. Well written, entertaining with a unique plot, Ms Wallace has created an enchanting sub culture for her characters. Like any good book it's not all roses and rainbows, but the dark aspects make the book that much more enjoyable along with the fact that the ending leaves the book open for sequels. I have to give Cold Kiss my highest praise, it is a book that I will definitely read again and I hope to see more of this world and these characters soon.

The knock came again.

“All right then.” After putting her drink and the pills back on the counter, she strode over to the door to look out the peep hole. It was a neighbor she had only seen in passing. She remembered his face, because he was the only person who had smiled at her since moving in. Plus he was very good looking. That was right before Spencer left, and she hadn’t seen him since. Aileen reluctantly opened the door. Not that she feared what he might do to her at this point, but she wanted to get him on his way so she could finish. When the door swung open a lukewarm breeze flooded the room carrying with it the slightest hint of the orange blossoms that Aileen cherished during a California Spring. Amazing. The whole room seemed to lighten up, and there stood a tall, statuesque grey-eyed man in her doorway.

“Hiya! I’m Farrell. I know you’ve been here for a while, and I just feel bloody awful for not coming by sooner. I’ve been busy with a few things, and I had to figure out which flat you were in.” He had barely taken a breath. In fact it seemed like he’d run up the three flights of stairs to get there.

She extended her hand after a slight bewildered pause. “Hi, it’s nice to meet you. I’m Aileen.”

“Oh. Yer from America, eh? What part of the States are ye from?” He seemed very excited about her nationality.

“I’m from California.”

“Really? Near San Francisco or Hollywood?”

“Hollywood, I guess, a little town called Redlands. It’s about an hour and a half east of Hollywood. I was closer to Palm Springs.” She felt herself relaxing a bit.

“Brilliant! Is it crawling with stars?” Farrell was like a child talking to Santa.

“Sort of. I’ve met a few, even went to school with one. Would you like to come in? I didn’t mean to be rude.” She moved aside and opened the door wider for him to move through.

“I would love to. You weren’t being rude. It’s not like I gave you much of a chance for the invite with my barrage of questions.”

“It’s quite all right. Please excuse the place. I don’t have much. Well, you’re the first company I’ve had.” She was a little embarrassed at the sparse nature of her apartment. Except for the used tissues overflowing the bin, there was only a chair, a few books, an end table, a lamp, and a small rug.

“Yer kidding! Well, I’m honored to be the first! I brought ya a little house-warming gift. Hope ya like whiskey!”

“As a matter of fact I do. I could sure use a shot or two. How about you?” She made no hesitation in moving into the kitchen for a couple of glasses.

“I suppose I could be persuaded to partake.” They both laughed. She pulled two mismatched cylinders out of the cabinet, and he moved to the living room side of the counter.

“Taking inventory are we?” Farrell had noticed the pills laid out in neat little rows on the counter.

“Oh, ha, yeah, that’s an art project slash boredom buster. I’ve gone through all my books, and you can see . . . no television,” she quickly added, lying. “Here we are,” she said, setting the glasses down and wiping the pills back into the bottle as he uncorked the strangely labeled bottle. It piqued Aileen’s interest, but still, she was unafraid of this potentially poisonous liquid and this beautiful stranger that had side rushed his way into her life. “So what’s that we’re toasting with?”

“Oh, it’s made by friends of mine just over in Aberdeen. It’s called Witches Tits. Only a select few get two bottles every year on winter solstice. This is the last of mine, but I’m getting more in a few months time when we have our big party. Would you like to come? I’d be honored if you’d join us.”

She paused a moment, thinking of her thwarted plans. “Sure, why not. I love parties.” Hell, what were a few more months in the scheme of things? Friends and fun seemed to have escaped beyond her reach, and now here it was standing across the counter sharing libations. He was a breath of fresh air and oh so hot! She wondered if this was life begging for a second chance.

Got my first edits today and am going to be working on those for the next few days. Not much else to report aside from.....Fall is almost here!!!! The air was slightly cool this morning and that is always a good sign for me. I'm crazy about Fall, in fact my entire kitchen is covered in an Autumn theme and cobalt blue. I grew up in CA where Summer is brown and winter is green, but no changing of the leaves. I moved to NC in 1995 and have been enjoying all of the season changes. Can't wait for the Apple Festival in Hendersonville, the corn maze in Shelby and Pagan Pride Day here in Charlotte!!!
So yeah, I'm off to work now. Later taters!

I've been meaning to start this blog for sometime. I have a livejournal for my alter ego, (real persona).
I was offered my first contract this morning with Amira press on my first book, Cold Kiss. I am still, as we speak, or rather, as I type, signing all the paperwork.
